WHAT IS THE BIOCHAR
The name biochar refers to a "coal" resulting from biomass thermal depolymerization processes. Thanks to its peculiar properties, it can be used to protect the environment and combat climate change.
- The biochar obtained from the controlled pyrolysis of waste materials or food waste retains most of the carbon in a stable form, limiting its release in the form of carbon dioxide, limiting the emission of greenhouse gases and mitigating the phenomenon of global warming.
Biochar obtained by reusing waste materials produces renewable energy, saving fossil fuels and facilitating waste disposal.
- Biochar improves the soil structure and, thanks to its pH, limits soil acidification. Furthermore, in combination with other organic or inorganic fertilizers, it improves plant growth, health and productivity, especially on poor or marginal soils.
- The spaces and cavities of biochar, in addition to its physicochemical properties, make it like a sponge that captures water, making it available over time. It also immobilizes contaminants, or nutrients and fertilizers, giving them away little by little.
- The biochar microstructure is an ideal environment for the growth of microorganisms and small invertebrates, which are essential components of soil fertility.
- Biochar also manages to retain different types of gas, such as nitrogen oxides, which are also responsible for the greenhouse effect. It is also used as a purifier filter, in particular circumstances.
